Hannan is a tireless self-promoter. Today he presents us with the headline “The EU, the Tea party, American exceptionalism, British particularism and the Anglosphere”. But reading the single paragraph, it becomes apparent that for all the words in the title, there is nothing of substance in the text; it is another plug for his dire book of secondhand Hayekian thought, The New Road to Serfdom: a letter of warning to America and his article in the National Review. Not even the book’s title is original, having been borrowed (or is that détourned?) from Hayek’s original title.
The comments are worth a read for comedy’s sake. Here’s one from someonce called “betspotter”
I wish Mr. Hannan could be our American president. Our founders would find in him a kindred spirit. Our government today is littered with fools and Marxists. I would think, as a champion of freedom and individual liberty, he would be a hero to the British people. I salute him and will read this book.
I smell a sockpuppet. As for “freedom and liberty” (surely a tautology?), only certains – namely landowning males – were permitted to vote in the early United States. Slaves, women and indentured servants were not free yet this important fact has escaped ‘betspotter’s’ attention.
And as if to underscore Hannan’s ideological lineage, hagar opines,
The brilliant Christopher Booker quotes Maggie Thatcher in her book Statecraft:
“That such an unnecessary and irrational project as building a European superstate was ever embarked on will seem in future years to be perhaps the greatest folly of the modern era. And that Britain, with her traditional strengths and global destiny, should ever have become part of it, will appear a political error of the first magnitude.”
The Daily Telegraph is the land of the living dead in printed form.
Ya know Hannan, all the political theories in the world don’t seem to able to keep people from being fooled by slickers. By example, your adoration of Obama despite ample evidence of his ineptitude and and Marxist adherence.
A warnings from a fool carries little weight.
The ‘Obama is a Marxist’ canard lives and is given succour and sustenance on Hannan’s blog. This is a rest home for the enfeebled of mind and those who suffer from philosophical poverty. They like their opinions to be uploaded into their brains. They enjoy hero-worship even if the object of their admiration constructs his arguments from clichés, tropes and smears.
