When the Right complain of ‘left-wing’ bias in the media, I always have to ask myself “What planet are these people on”? The real reason the Right moan so much about alleged ‘left-wing’ bias is because they feel that it is their right to completely dominate the media and when they can’t get their way, they scream and scream and scream. I say to them, “Grow up”!
I read that Kelsey Grammer, the star of Frasier and self-confessed Republican has set up his own ‘right wing’ TV entertainment network. I give it 18 months before it collapses under the weight of Grammer’s ego. Most people just want television to entertain them but I fail to see what is so ‘left-wing’ about sit-coms like Friends or Third Rock From The Sun. One has to wonder what sort of programming one might see on Grammer’s network. To be honest I can’t think of a single television programme that has a bias of any kind. The news, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish as it tends to promote the ideology of the dominant class. Which means the message is always a conservative one.
Of course some people on the Right, especially in Britain, are always complaining that the BBC portrays them as ‘monsters’ and ‘evil’. But these people live in a world that exists entirely in their imagination. Those of us on the Left could cite many examples of bias. In fact, Britain’s newspaper industry is dominated by right-leaning dailies. But you never hear the Right ever mention this. I wonder why? Is it because they were spoiled as children? Quite possibly.
